Joseph Gilbert is the founder and owner of JMG Tennis Academy. He has over 20 years of coaching experience and opened up JMG in 2011 with the vision of developing players to the highest level.
Gilbert is currently the only coach in the country to win the “Development Coach of the Year” award twice, awarded to him by the United States Olympic Committee in 2013 and 2018. He has become known as one of the best development coaches in the country.

Jenson Brooksby
Gilbert has coached him for over 13 years. For most of his junior career, Jenson was one of the top players in the country. At age 17, he won USTA National Champion Hardcourt 18 and under in 2018, which earned him a wild card into the U.S. Open. In 2019 he earned his way to the main draw of the U.S. Open again, this time through qualifying. He won his first main draw round of a Grand Slam beating former top 5 ranked ATP player, Tomas Berdych. Brooksby has also won an ATP Challenger title and multiple ITF Pro titles. He is currently ranked in the top 250 in the world at age 20.
Collin Altamirano
Colin was the first unseeded player in history to win the USTA National Championship Hardcourt, 18 and under, in 2013. That earned him a wild card into the U.S. Open. Collin started training with coach Gilbert at the age of 7 and became the number 1 recruit in the country by age 18. He won 3 NCAA National Titles at the University Of Virginia. In 2018, Collin earned his way back to the U.S. Open main draw. His highest ATP ranking is 283.
Katie Volynets is currently ranked in the top 320 WTA players in the world at the age of 19. She has won multiple National and ITF titles, and has multiple wins against top 150 WTA players. Coach Gilbert has been working with her for multiple years and in that period of time, she won the National Championship Hardcourt 18’s Title. This earned Katie a wild card into the U.S. Open main draw in 2019.
From 2003 to 2007, Gilbert was the part-time traveling coach of Kevin Kim, who reached a career high ranking of #64 in the world on the ATP Tour during their time together.
Additional players have earned scholarships to Division 1 schools under coach Gilbert and JMG staff such as Stanford, Harvard, Baylor, Virginia, Columbia, UCLA, USC and the list goes on.
Gilbert coached top sectional and national players in all age divisions both in girls and boys winning numerous titles.
